For more than 27 years, MCOPS has been providing a wealth of representation, organizational, and advocate support for associations and unions and individual law enforcement officers in Maryland. Maryland COPS was formed by a group which met in Columbia Maryland in 1990 led by police officers in the Howard County Police Department. Maryland COPS originally existed as a State Council of the IUPA. The state councils worked with other IUPA affiliates to provide quality services to working law enforcement. In 1995 Maryland COPS was reformed on a pattern developed by its sister organization in Virginia, Virginia COPS which is reflected in Maryland COPS' current permanent makeup. Maryland COPS also works with the International Brotherhood of Police Officers to assist Maryland Police Officers and Deputy Sheriffs to receive much needed representation, valuable street survival training and other training that reflects the life and job threatening world of law enforcement today.
In America a law enforcement officer dies in the line of duty approximately every 53 hours. They go to work with the knowledge That they may not return home. They have committed their lives to protecting others, regardless of the risks. The best defense they have is good training. Training truly is the key to their survival. Maryland COPS supports calibre press street survival courses.
