In 1995 Maryland COPS was reformed as an independent non-affiliated Association. Maryland COPS works with the International Brotherhood of Police Officers and other police organizations to assist Maryland Police Officers and Deputy Sheriffs to receive much needed representation, valuable street survival training and other training that reflects the life and job threatening world of law enforcement today.
For more than 26 years, MCOPS has been providing a wealth of representation, organizational, and advocate support for associations and unions of law enforcement officers in Maryland. Maryland COPS was formed by a group which met in Columbia Maryland in 1990 led by police officers in the Howard County Police Department. Maryland COPS originally existed as a State Council of the IUPA. The state councils worked with other IUPA affiliates to provide quality services to working law enforcement.
